Adrenal Package

WHAT are they? WHY do they matter?

To keep it simple, friends:

Adrenals are little glands that sit on top of your kidneys.

They may be tiny but friends they are CRITICAL for healthy hormone function and overall vitality!

They’re mostly known for producing your stress hormone, cortisol. BUT adrenals are incredible and have many jobs in your body such as producing big hormones like:

  • Testosterone
  • DHEA & DHEA-S
  • Aldosterones
  • Cortisol
  • Epinephrine & norepinephrine (adrenaline)

Cortisol dysfunction can impact every system in the body! It is commonly known as the “stress hormone” and is crucial for hormone balance. Cortisol also helps:

  • Regulate immune system response
  • Regulate stress response
  • Balances blood sugar
  • Controls weight
  • Aids in sleep
  • Improves mood and thoughts
  • Anti-inflammatory

So what exactly is cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone, that belongs to the glucocorticoids family. The glucocorticoid family are a group of steroid hormones that are produced in the adrenal glands then released into our blood stream.

Did you know: Almost every cell in the human body contains receptors for cortisol!

Cortisol regulation:

Blood levels of cortisol vary throughout the day. They usually start out higher in the morning (upon waking) and fall as the day continues. This is a phenomenon called diurnal rhythm.

When we are stressed, our bodies release extra cortisol!

Why should I worry about my cortisol levels?

It is important to know if your cortisol levels are consistently high or consistently low because it could mean something more serious is going on. However, knowing signs of cortisol dysregulation can help you learn to control how your life choices impact your body's cortisol response.

Signs of cortisol dysfunction can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Low libido
  • Intestinal issues
  • Weight gain
  • Anxiety

By knowing how your life and the choices you make every day (what you eat, your blood-sugar levels, exercise, sleep, stress levels, etc.) impact your cortisol response, you can learn how to better manage your cortisol levels and reduce symptoms.
